Last night just after midnight I was lying in bed thinking about the V episode I’d watched earlier. For those of you who aren’t watching it, it’s about aliens. So you can imagine my alarm when a bright blue flash lit up the bedroom, followed by a streak of yellow shooting across the window. At first I thought a helicopter had shined a light straight into my bedroom window, but there was no sound. I woke Jim up with some exclamation like, “What the crap was that?!” He must have thought I’d lost it when I told him, “I think… I just saw… a spaceship.” He was still awake when there was a boom a couple of minutes later.

I was relieved (and gratified) to hear this morning what everyone’s talking about – it was a huge bolide meteor sighted across several states, and the boom we heard afterward was a sonic boom. Whew – I’m not crazy.

This is the best youtube video footage I found:

Did you see it?

well now, let’s not be too hasty to disregard your possible craziness quite yet. :)
But at least it wasn’t aliens. This time.

I was asleep and didn’t see or hear a thing. And that is some crazy footage!! Was it really that bright?!!

Yes! It was like daylight! That’s why it freaked me out! I guess staying up late has its perks. :)

  3. Amanda says:

That was freaking awesome! That would have scared the crap out of me. Do you remember seeing the old V when we were younger?

  4. admin says:

Yes, I remember it vaguely. Something about a lady eating a white mouse and a human getting pregnant from a V. The new series has been pretty good so far.

Well, I missed everything. I guess I am a hard sleeper after all. I would have loved to have seen and heard it all and would have had the same reaction as you….Aliens!!

I can’t believe I saw the flash and heard the boom and really thought nothing of it until you mentioned the whole meteor thing!

That is great footage. I’m so sad I missed it. I’ve been getting up too early this week. I can usually stay up that late. I watched “V” as well. I would have been totally freaked out.

That story has been on the news quite a bit, and I think of you every time I see the story. Glad at least you got an answer to what it was, so you didn’t spend forever thinking “they” were coming to get you.

They showed it on the weather segment here. I thought, that’s way cool. Sorry I missed it. Like the time I was in Nebraska when the tornado went through Salt Lake.

  10. Jen says:

I’m not convinced it was a meteor. You should have heard our road trip talk through Nevada as we discussed Area 51 with Carter.

How weird is that!? And, you know what Uncle Bob? You really should stop watching that crap! ( ha!) I still have nightmares from that Aliens show you subjected me to at such a young tender age…

So I totally saw it too that night! Both Nick and Toby were in bed, and I was up in the night with the flu. At first I thought “I must be really sick because I swear I just saw a flash of light in the window.” Then later I started coming up with all these scenarios of what it could be: aliens, random lightning, aliens… :)

Its nice to know someone else saw it too!

Thank you for finding that video and posting it! I saw the flash, allowed my heart to race and my imagination to run wild for a moment, and then disregarded it and went to sleep. It wasn’t until I saw your Facebook update the next day that I knew what it was! :-)
