We’re off!

Tomorrow we’re driving to L.A. for the gallery show Jim is in at Gallery 1988. Yay! We’re staying with an old roommate of Jim’s and his family. If you’re into blogs (and why are you here if you’re not?!) you may have seen his wife’s very funny blog, Hollywood Flakes. Yeah, she’s basically a celebrity. And we’re friends. Does that make us cooler by association? I like to think so.

We’re also planning on hitting Disneyland while we’re down there. Believe it or not, I’m 30 and haven’t ever been there. Shocking, I know. Let’s just say I was 17 when my family finally got down to the O.C. for vacation and we were given a choice between Disneyland and Magic Mountain. And most of us were teenagers. It wasn’t a tough decision.

In other news, last night I made hummus and chicken shawarma for dinner. Jim got hooked on middle eastern food while he was living over there and I’m proud to say last night’s meal unseated my chicken parmesan as his reigning favorite.

Is this hard to make? What is tahini?

  2. Colleen March 28, 2008

Nope, it’s not hard. I’m not much of a gourmet, so I don’t bother with anything complicated. Tahini is a sesame spread, similar in consistency to peanut butter. I went to a health food store and found it there – by the peanut butter, actually.

Anyone interested in our leftover hummus? We didn’t get a chance to finish it and are leaving in the morning. I hate to toss it… Give me a call if you’re interested.

I’m jealous you get to go on Splash Mountain. It’s my most favorite ride because it’s so dang cute. And totally do the Fast Pass. It’s pretty much the only way to do Disneyland.
    Have fun!

Nice job on making middle eastern food! Dale and I love Lebanese food in particular. While you are in town, we should take you over to our fav. little cafe for some lamb shawarma and the best yogurt cucumber dip ever! They have a dessert called ‘heaven’ and it truly is amazing. It’s honey soaked cake with crushed pistachio and whipped cream. It completely melts in your mouth. When we lived in Orange, the guys in the band would have mad cravings and head over to Papa Hassan’s for a yummy treat.

You’ll have to tell me how you make your shawarma when we catch up with you next week ~ Looking forward to Jim’s show.

You have to take me with you since it’s going to be a freezing snowy week here! I’m going to be green with envy all week long. Enjoy D-land! You thought Elijah was stoked to see the Elmo exhibit? Wait till he gets in the D-land gates! Fun stuff! Enjoy Enjoy! Don’t forget to ride the train through the “primeval world.”

I see you’re into recipezaar as well. I LOVE it. I actually was searching it tonight to figure out what to make for dinner. It’s awesome. And, yay, I’m back online. We’ve moved and have internet. Life is good again.

Marissa – You took us there a couple of years ago and that’s when I got hooked! I wish we’d have been able to make it this time!

Yeah, Disneyland was pretty much awesome. More on that later. :)
